Ask for Help - Issue 371
January 24, 2015
Hi there! ....

This week Naomi turned 18! It was really hard to plan her special day as her penpal from America (and her mum) turned up as a surprise visit for Nomi. Very exciting. We had to tell a few little lies to get her to the airport on her birthday - but all forgiven and all worthwhile. She was speechless and all through the week it as been a little surreal for both the girls to be doing life together.

This weekend is Australia Day weekend, and in honour of our guests I have been thinking through traditional Aussie food. Its been fun to brainstorm with my friends, and then put together a menu for the coming week.

On the learning side of things Daniel continues to write his story, he also designed, planned and built a project over in the shed - not quite finished yet, taken lots of photos always playing around (I mean - learning) new settings, he's played board games and war games, helped cook dinner - and lots of those other type of life skills that need practicing as you live together as a family, and have guests to stay.

A highlight for me this weekend was that my grandma phoned me. Grandma is 99.5 years old and rarely phones these days. She chatted away for about 10 minutes. She is an amazing woman - she still lives by herself, and potters in her garden shed (though she doesn't call that true gardening), and talks of God's love and purposes. It was a blessing to talk to her.

This week you'll find this week's newsletter over on my blog: I'm talking about asking for help - though it may be hard, we do need to ask for help.

Did you see last week's weekend post: Parents: Don't settle for Normal

Blending Life with Lessons e-book - Does your everyday life challenge your homeschool ideas? This is my journey as I discover that it is possible to disciple my children in today's busy lifestyle.

Heart Focus Parenting book/e-book - A heart focused parent will keep their attention on their child's heart for God, instead of on external behaviours.

Restoring the Heart, Mind and Soul of Christmas Do your Christmas celebrations line up with what you believe? Do your celebrations help your children learn more about Jesus?

This e-book is based on a workshop I held for a couple of years to help families see that Christmas can be a significant tradition in our family life. If we are intentional about how our family celebrates we have the opportunity to use this time to teach our children about Jesus, and his love for each one of us.
