A Giving Person gives more than Gifts - Issue 369
December 19, 2014
Hi there! ....

This week's newsletter is closely connected with what has happened in our home this week. We took on emergency care for a little baby. We felt so sad for her as she struggled to come to terms with her new environment. She cried for days, would only sleep if I held her, and simply didn't respond in ways that you'd expect of a 11 month old. At one point I asked myself: Why? Why do I do this? My answer was - I want to be a giving person. I continued to reflect on this and my newsletter (blog post) this weekend reflects some of those thoughts. "Giving" may well end up as my 'one word' for 2015!

Having this little one in our house, and making her needs a priority meant a lot of other things didn't happen. I let go of my to-do list, Christmas baking and the idea of handmade gifts went out the window. Naomi was my number one helping hand. She looked after the little one a few times giving me the opportunity to have a shower, and do a few important things. Other than that Naomi worked on creative projects (aka Christmas presents) and achieved a little study, mainly math and piano. Daniel was more consistent with his studies, working on math, writing, drivers ed, and then working for an hour or two each day out in the yard or farm.

This will be the last newsletter I write for a few weeks. After Christmas we are having some family time and then I'll be in either cleaning mode or planning mode as we face the new year.

I wish you joy as you celebrate Christmas with family or friends. I pray that you will reach out and love on someone at this time. I also pray for wisdom as you too face the new year - as you plan and prepare.

Live life with your Kids!

I will be moving to a new system for my weekend newsletter where it will now be posted on my blog. If you are subscribed through Lifestyle-Homeschool, you will still receive a weekly email giving you the link to the article and anything else I shared during the week. So please do pop over there - just click the link -

I'm talking about being a giving person: A giving person gives more than gifts.

Did you see last week's weekend post: End of Year Recognition for our Kids

and I posted a wrap up post with photos of things going on in our life.

Have a great week with your kids this week - in whatever you do, remember you have the opportunity to build a relationship with your kids, and help them grow and mature in some area of their life.

Blending Life with Lessons e-book - Does your everyday life challenge your homeschool ideas? This is my journey as I discover that it is possible to disciple my children in today's busy lifestyle.

Heart Focus Parenting book/e-book - A heart focused parent will keep their attention on their child's heart for God, instead of on external behaviours.

Restoring the Heart, Mind and Soul of Christmas Do your Christmas celebrations line up with what you believe? Do your celebrations help your children learn more about Jesus?

This e-book is based on a workshop I held for a couple of years to help families see that Christmas can be a significant tradition in our family life. If we are intentional about how our family celebrates we have the opportunity to use this time to teach our children about Jesus, and his love for each one of us.
