Keeping Christ the center of Christmas - with a Grown Family - Issue 367 December 05, 2014 |
Hi there! .... This week was the beginning of Christmas parties and wrap ups for us. Sunday was the boys Taekwondo grading - which they both passed. They now have a little while off. Mid-week we had our homeschool co-op pool and pizza party. I made a hard decision to let the other families know I'll be stepping away a little from the co-op next year and won't be the organiser. The co-op has been a big part of our family life for many years, and something that I have enjoyed doing, so that was a little sad. Today we go to a farwell breakfast - unfortunately, a part of living in a transient community is that you seem to say goodbye a lot - but it also means you get to say hello a lot too - so we have to keep that perspective. And in keeping with that idea, we spent most of Thursday with friends who lived here over 10 years ago - what fun to catch up with them on and off over the last few weeks. In amongst all this social activity the kids have worked at keeping their mornings focused. Daniel finished his geography course, and continued to chip away at his other lessons. Naomi is reducing her studies to the absolute necessary - Bible study, math, writing, piano and art. Making Christmas presents is a high priority; Naomi completed a few, whereas Daniel hit a bit of a snag at each turn so his time was spent designing and buying supplies. Live life with your Kids! I will be moving to a new system for my weekend newsletter where it will now be posted on my blog. If you are subscribed through Lifestyle-Homeschool, you will still receive a weekly email giving you the link to the article and anything else I shared during the week. So please do pop over there - just click the link - I'm talking about how do we keep Christ at the center of Christmas with a grown family - the things we used to do just don't happen anymore.
Did you see last week's weekend post: My go-to Consequence This week I wrote about What to do when Homeschooling isn't working (part 1) and (Part 2) Have a great week with your kids this week - in whatever you do, remember you have the opportunity to build a relationship with your kids, and help them grow and mature in some area of their life. My Bookshop ![]() ![]() ![]() This e-book is based on a workshop I held for a couple of years to help families see that Christmas can be a significant tradition in our family life. If we are intentional about how our family celebrates we have the opportunity to use this time to teach our children about Jesus, and his love for each one of us.
