Do we see Good? - Issue 300 May 24, 2013 |
Hi there! .... This week we began our next study block with a focus on media studies. But the highlight for me is that I am heading to the Mum Heart Conference. This newsletter was prepared earlier in the week so I can’t really share what our week was like!! But I can say that I hate packing and that I will procrastinate over that task for as long as I can!! I can also say it is a delight to be able to leave my children in the care of each other knowing that they will look after each other with love (though I’m also sure there will be some niggles, which they will be able to work through!) This is my 300th newsletter! So a big thank you to all my readers both of my newsletter and my website and blog. Thank you for the notes of encouragement you send. When I click that send button I never know who is going to read what I've said, so your notes give me a 'face'. Thank you.
Live life with your kids!If you are a new Australian reader I would appreciate you reading this special request.
Do we see Good? Last weekend I attended a Memorial Service for a little girl who died of a brain tumour. Funerals always make you appreciate life. It is at these times of sadness, grief, loss that we are reminded to focus on our priorities. When I walk along side people in this situation, I often think that I don’t want it to take a major illness or death for me to get my priorities in order. Oh the bravery of these parents to be able to stand in front of family, friends, community and talk about their little girl. She was a delight to them, to her grandparents, friends and school teachers. They shared of her spirit, her character, and her quirks. Remembering her brought smiles and chuckles to all. The thought I went home with was – why does it take a death, a memorial, to be able to recall those good things about our kids. Could I today, with the blessing of my kids still with me, stand and sing their praises? Could I recall the good things about them? Could I share the quirks that I love? Or is all that buried under the job of being a parent – of teaching, training them in the way they should go. Do we pause in our busy life, to reflect on the delight of our children? Children are a blessing – and it was beautiful to hear the grandmother declare that – Children are a blessing. Do we enjoy that blessing today? Though this newsletter is short - it holds the key thought that is mulling on my heart. I hope you can take time during this weekend, during the coming week, to praise your kids - not only to them, but to your husband, to your parents, to your friends. Not a brag session, but being honest - there is some good in your kids - can you see it?
During the week I blog at Live Life with Your Kids! And this week you'll have to pop over there to see what I've blogged because at the time of setting up this newsletter I hadn't written anything. My Bookshop ![]() ![]() ![]() This e-book is based on a workshop I held for a couple of years to help families see that Christmas can be a significant tradition in our family life. If we are intentional about how our family celebrates we have the opportunity to use this time to teach our children about Jesus, and his love for each one of us.
