Merry Christmas for 2012 - Issue 280
December 21, 2012
|Hi there! ....
This week has been a great week – the rethinking that I went through last week, helping me see what is really important certainly benefited not only me but my whole family I'm sure!! There were still things that didn't happen the way I wanted them too but that came down to self discipline not because I had too many things on my plate. By intentionally reducing my to-do list down to only that which was important for my short term goals (family celebrations) it made me see how much extra stuff I take on and question the relevance. So this is something I’ll be thinking about over the next little while as I try and find that balance between busyness and productivity.
One of the highlights for us this week was to walk into our new community library. It is very flash for an outback town and we look forward to spending more time there in the new year.
Our Christmas preparations are all in full swing. Decorations are up, I have bought the seafood, Daniel has made the Christmas cake, and yesterday we had a baking day. Instead of us all in the kitchen at once, which I find completely exhausting, everyone chose one recipe and we took turns to bake. Jess is working on a raw fruit mince pies (for a healthy alternative) , Naomi made shortbread, Daniel Gingerbread and I made some caramel fudge. We didn’t manage cleaning up behind us very well (make note for next time!) but we have lots of treats for the next few days – or I should say weeks as some of it will go in the freezer as one family surely shouldn’t eat so much food!!
We watched a few old movies during the week – Holiday Inn and White Christmas were our favourites. I so enjoy seeing my kids enjoy these old movies (the girls in particular). Though we haven’t chosen what we’ll watch, our next old movie session will be in the afternoon of Christmas Eve as the girls and I rest from being in the kitchen and do our nails together (no idea what the boys will do!)
I’m going to take a break from my newsletter – and maybe even blogging (we’ll see) over the next few weeks, so let me take this opportunity to both thank you for your support and encouragement, as I receive so many emails and notes from you, and to wish for you a very special Christmas. Regardless of all my prep, of all my undone tasks, Christmas day will come, a day which has been set aside to spend together and as a family we will join with others to worship God and thank him for sending Christ – for putting into motion his plan to take away our sins and restore our relationship with Him.
My prayer for all my readers is that you do enjoy this day together with your family, that you enjoy doing things together with laughter and good food as these are the types of activities that build relationships. I also pray that you take the time to help your children worship Jesus as they stand beside you.

I blog throughout the week at Live Life with Your Kids! This week I've written:
Restoring the Heart, Mind and Soul of Christmas Do your Christmas celebrations line up with what you believe? Do your celebrations help your children learn more about Jesus?
This e-book is based on a workshop I held for a couple of years to help families see that Christmas can be a significant tradition in our family life. If we are intentional about how our family celebrates we have the opportunity to use this time to teach our children about Jesus, and his love for each one of us.
