Trust in the Lord - Issue 217
September 16, 2011
|Hi there! ....
This week the highlight for me was slow and steady days. It is about time – we’ve been in a bit of a busy season. One afternoon I remember just sitting at the table and delighting in what was happening in my home. The kids were all being very productive with their time – some were writing stories, another was sewing and one was studying. And then the kids laughter interrupted my thinking. Nomi was reciting or acting a line or two from a movie or story they had enjoyed and they were just enjoying each other’s company. I was reminded of Ps 133:1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! I think one of the reasons they were enjoying each other’s company so much is that they were relaxed, they had time to connect with each other. I think this is one of the first things that go out the window on rushed and busy days. We need to find days when we can reconnect and live together in harmony!

Trust in Lord
Today’s newsletter I just want to share a series of scriptures and make a short comment at the end. Please don’t rush through the scripture verses – read them, ponder them, and ask yourself if you need to respond in some way. I’m quoting from the Amplified Version because it expounds the words giving us a fuller understanding and helps me break the automatic thinking that happens when I read a familiar verse.
Proverbs 3:5,6 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize and acknowledge Him, and he will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 Most blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.
Ps 64:10 The uncompromisingly righteous shall be glad in the Lord and shall trust and take refuge in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory and offer praise.
Ps 40:3-4 And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord
Psalm 71:1 In you, O Lord, do I put my trust and confidently take refuge; let me never be put to shame or confusion!
Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust.
I’m sure you see the thread here: trust in the Lord, lean on Him, be confident that he is there for you. My encouragement to you this week is that regardless of what circumstances are going on around you – regardless of whether things are crazy and chaotic, confusing and overwhelming, or uncertain and unsettling God is God.
I shared these verses in our Bible study this week and one of the comments was – God really is a crutch isn’t he! Christians get accused that God is nothing but a crutch – and maybe it is time we started to be honest instead of defensive. Yes, I rely on God – who do you rely on?
